My Merge Codes Failed

Modified on Thu, 17 Nov 2022 at 06:32 PM

Merge codes insert client-specific information, at the time of sending, to personalize the email. It is important to use them correctly, to do that it is helpful to think literally, for example:
  • If you use Merge Code {JOB_TABLE} when sending an email from the client record (instead of the schedule), Pet Sitter Plus does not know which Services to populate because none have been selected, so the Merge Code fails.
  • If you use Merge Code {PAYMENT_RECEIVED} when sending an invoice, Pet Sitter Plus does not know which amount to use as there is no payment referenced, you need to send from Payments where you can indicate the amount of a payment.

Merge Codes need to be used in Context:

Please note that merge codes have to be used in the correct context, for example:
  • Invoice-related merge codes will ONLY work when sending an Invoice.
  • Payment-related merge codes will ONLY work when sending a Receipt.
  • Job-related (or service-related) merge codes will ONLY work when sending an email from the Schedule.
  • Request-related merge codes will ONLY work when sending an email from Service Requests.

More About Merge Codes

A merge code inserts client-specific information into an email, at the time of sending the email so you can personalize each email you send, even when you send 100 at a time. For example, if the merge code {CLIENT_FORENAME} is used in an email template, the client's name is merged upon transmission. So instead of "Dear Client," it can read "Dear Jane."

Why Did My Merge Codes Not Work?

Navigation: Clients > Payments & Refunds > New Payment

When you create and email a Receipt to a client, if you use the merge code {INVOICE_NUMBER} when sending it, it will not populate.

Instead your client will receive an email showing the merge code and NOT the value of the payment. This is because an invoice can be associated with multiple payments (if for example it is part paid by a number of smaller amounts). {PAYMENT_RECEIVED} merge code needs to be used with emailing Receipts.
