Yahoo has introduced some additional security measures to protect your account, there are some additional steps you will need to take to connect your Yahoo account via SMTP which are set out in this article.
Getting Started: Email Configuration SMTP Emails can be sent from Pet Sitter Plus in a few ways.
- Through our internal email system (default).
- Through a combination of our internal email system and your business or personal email account (strongly recommended).
- Through your business or personal email account only.
Note:
- Connecting your email account to Pet Sitter Plus is not essential, but can provide enhanced functions such as bulk/masse emailing to your clients.
- If you have a Gmail/GSuite, Microsoft or other email provider account, please follow the applicable instructions below:
- Connect your Email Using Gmail/Google
- Connect your Email using SMTP (For all other email Account Providers)
- Connect your Email using Microsoft (For Outlook, Hotmail, Live.com or MS 365)

How Do I Set up SMTP for Yahoo?
Step 1: Email Options
Navigation: Admin > Settings > Email Settings >Email Options
- BCC All Direct Emails To Company: Turn ON (Optional) to receive a copy of all emails sent via SMTP.
- Click "Update."
Step 2: Email Options
Navigation: Connect > Email Settings > Connect Your Email
- Send Email From Your Own Account: Turn ON to configure SMTP.
- Email Configuration Type: Select SMTP.
- Only Use For Direct Emails: Turn ON (Highly Recommended). You should continue to send Invoices and other emails through the internal server.
Step 3: Email Configurations
Navigation: Connect > Email Settings > Email Configuration
Complete the SMTP configuration with your email account details (as in the example below).
- Sender Email: Your Yahoo email address
- Host: eg. "smtp.mail.yahoo.com" or "smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk" or "smtp.mail.yahoo.com.au"
- Username: Your Yahoo email address
- Password: The password for Your Yahoo email address (NOT your Pet Sitter Plus login password)
- Security: Select STARTTLS
- Port: Enter 587
- Click "Test & Update."
Note: Your first attempt at connecting with "Test & Update" will likely fail. This is normal due to the security settings you need to alter on your Yahoo Account.

Troubleshooting Yahoo SMTP
SMTP Troubleshooting:
- Yahoo has increased its level of security for connecting to different applications. You will need to create an APP password to use in place of your normal password with Pet Sitter Plus.
Step 1: Generate an App Password to use with Pet Sitter Plus
In order for Pet Sitter Plus to "talk" to your Yahoo email account via SMTP you need to retrieve an APP Password from Yahoo.
- Log into your Yahoo email account.
- Access your account settings by clicking on your Profile in the upper right corner.
- Click on Add or manage accounts.
- Click on Account Info
- Click on Account Security on the left hand menu
- You will be asked to verify your account before you can proceed
- Once on the Account Security tab, scroll down the page until you see "App Password"
- Click on "Generate app password"
- Click on "Get Started"
- You may be asked to sign in again to verify your account
- Enter the name of the App you intend to use the password
- Click Generate password
- You may be asked again to verify your account
- Once the password has been generated, click the "copy" button in the right hand side
Step 2: Add Yahoo generated app password to your Email Configuration
- Paste the password into the password field in Pet Sitter Plus Email Configuration
- Click Test & Update and you should receive the Connection Succeeded! notification
Email Confirmation
- You should receive an email with a "Success" message in the subject line to confirm that SMTP is now working.
Tip: Once you have successfully completed the connection, a new option to email your clients in bulk from the Client Search is available, like this.
